The Church provides pouch mail service to Spencer's mission. Items sent by pouch mail use the United States Postal Service (USPS) from your home to Church headquarters, where they are then forwarded to Spencer by a private courier along with other Church mail. Pouch mail leaves Church headquarters each Friday. Items received after the mail has been sent will be held until the following week. Only postcards or one-page correspondences (no envelopes) written on one side of the page may be sent through pouch.

Items not complying with the following instructions will be returned to sender or discarded --

Lay the letter blank side down. Fold the bottom of the letter about one-third of the way up the page and crease. Fold the top of the letter to the bottom of the first fold and crease. Secure the long side with two pieces of tape about one-inch in from each end, but do not seal the ends. Write your name and complete return address in the top left corner. Affix first class postage in the top right corner. In the middle, write Spencer's pouch address (see above).

Sending Packages:
Packages sent from the United States to Ecuador may not exceed 4 lbs. and must carry a green sticker. DO NOT send packages sent by Priority Mail, FedEx, or UPS. These will automatically go to mail jail in Ecuador. Spencer will have to make a special trip to the post office to pay a large fee ($30-$80) to take it out of mail jail.

Packages sent by the United States Postal Service should weigh no more than 4 lbs. The Ecuador post office charges no more than $5.00 for delivery of packages with that weight limit or less. Packages more than 4 lbs must pass through customs and will cost a lot more, possibly more than $100. All packages must have an official paper stating the contents or they may also have to pass through customs and be charged accordingly. Packages with clothing may also pass through customs. Sending packages through private carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc) is an even more expensive delivery service costing between $20-$25 to receive small packages that would cost between $1 to $5 through the Ecuador Post Office. All these charges are in addition to the sending costs. Sending and recieveing money by bank card, credit card, Western Union, ServiEntegra, or other similar means is a very inexpensive way to send gifts to missionaries. As a side note about packages, on at least two occasions the postal service has put together more than one package sent to the same missionary at the same time and then charged on delivery as though it were one large package! Sending several small packages can be a good idea if they are not sent at the same time. Packages sent a week apart are less likely to be bundled together as one.
